JUNE 2017 NEWSLETTER
Another month gone, midwinter gone, so it is now all steam ahead to longer days and warmer weather. I hope you all enjoyed our speaker last month. I found her talk very informative and surprised at the level of research being done on our doorstep.
Next month`s meeting on July 6th is our midwinter meeting and after a change of venue and therefore a change in time from our usual programme, I can now tell you what we have planned for you. We are going to meet at 1.30 pm at St Johns Hall (or make your way independently) to the town museum in Rangiora by the Rangiora bowls club (opposite New World supermarket). Plenty of parking at the bowling club.
We will then have a tour around the museum, after that we will go to the Brickmill Cafe at Waikuku for afternoon tea. Plenty of parking and the cost will be as much or as little as you wish. Scone or muffin and a cuppa approx $10. Something different but I am sure we will find the museum interesting and a good afternoon out.
Our minds are very much focused on the Eisteddfod on Wednesday 30th August at Sefton Hall. The singing group is learning a selection of good songs on the theme of spring and hopefully we are making progress. I was overwhelmed with the response for members wanting to take part in the stage items, so thank you all so much for your positive response. We will truly be able to make this a team effort with other members coming to support us on the day. The stage items are well on the way and the classes for the table items are as follows.
1 Open savoury toastie
2 Mocktail in a glass, decorated
3 3 pieces citrus slice, uncooked and iced
4 3 spring flowers
5 Photograph 6” x 4 “ ( 10 cm x 15cm ) mounted. Card not judged
6 Arrangement of spring flowers . No larger than 23cm x 30 cm
7 Vegetable Animal
8 Knitted slippers / moccasins to be donated
ASSOCIATES Homemade card
Over 70s 8 ‘’ peggy square to be donated (all over 70 ‘s encouraged to enter )
We will make these objects the focus for our competitions for our August meeting. The more entries we have the more points we get and so have a better chance of retaining our cups. This is the
opportunity for those members who are not involved in the stage items to get involved so everyone feels part of the eisteddfod.
